IM - Federation

openUC offers server side federation with many public and commercial IM services.  Server side federation offers distinct advantages.  No multi-protocol client is required. The IT admin stays in control and grants permission to individual users to federate with defined networks, while message archiving is still possible for all federated networks.

List of federated networks:

   Google
   Yahoo
   MSN
   AIM
   ICQ
   IRC
   Facebook
   Lotus Sametime

 * For some federated protocols support is best effort only as these protocols have to be reverse engineered.

Immediate Benefits Immediate Benefits

Instant Messaging (IM) and Presence have long become critical business productivity tools.  IT departments and executives need to take control of this critical service, turn it into a reliable enterprise application, integrate it with the rest of the company's infrastructure, and make sure regulatory and compliance requirements are met.

openUC IM provides a state-of-the art Enterprise IM & presence application that is highly scalable, reliable and fully based on the XMPP standard.  The openUC IM & presence solution is based on the Openfire server, a highly reliable and widely used solution for small and very large deployments.

Key Features Key Features

Instant Messaging (Chat)

Enterprise instant messaging system offering a rich and integrated communications environment for the modern enterprise. Automatic and personal presence status makes it easy to communicate effectively.

Group Chat

Personal chat rooms enable efficient team collaboration.  Group chat can be used as an add-on capability during voice conferences or as a way to efficiently distribute messages to a group of users. Every user can have a personal chat room.

Show "On the Phone" when in a call

IM presence and phone presence (i.e. BLF presence) is federated so that an aggregated presence message is displayed to your friends.

Simple Escalations from Chat to Call, Group Chat to Conference Call

Want to ping someone before a call is made to see whether the person is available?  You can then very easily escalate from chat to call without dialing a number.  The same feature is available for group chats that can be escalated into your personal voice conference bridge without distributing a number first and then having to ask everyone to dial in.

Dynamic Call Routing based on Presence

The openUC find-me / follow-me feature is sensitive to your personal presence setting.  If a phone number or SIP URI is included in your presence message, calls will be forwarded to this destination for the duration.

Presence and IM Federation

Often you have friends on different networks, but don't want to have several different clients open at the same time.  openUC allows for IM & presence federation with many networks.  And all this without the need for a multi-protocol client.

Shared Profiles and vcards

There is only one address book between the phone system and the IM system.  Profile lookups and profile updates are shared between all the components and services so that the information is always consistent.
